Components Overview

Components allows one or more existing tags (called Components) to be assigned to another existing tag (called Parent).  This allows all of the tags to move around the district, as a group, by only moving the parent tag.  Examples: laptops in a laptop cart, a mobile workstation with various technology items

As components are assigned to existing tags, the Asset Type of the tags are changed respectively.  There are three Asset Types.  They are:

1. • Standalone - a tag not assigned to another tag and has no tags assigned to it
   • Parent - a tag with one or more tags assigned to it
   • Component - a tag assigned to another tag (a component can only be assigned to one parent)

A tag can only be assigned one Asset Type at a time.  Therefore, a component cannot also be a parent.

All user roles have access to the Component feature.  They are:

1. • Assign a tag to a Parent (changes the Asset Type from Standalone to Component)
   • Remove a Component from a Parent
   • Transfer a Component or all assigned Components from one Parent to another Parent
     

NOTE:

Only tags in the status of Available are eligible to be assigned to a parent.

Components acquire the assigned parent's status and location.  This includes:

1. • Components reflect the current tag status of their parent.  
   • As a parent is moved throughout the district, the components move with the parent.
   • • Room to Room Transfers
     • Issuing to Staff
     • Issuing to Students
     • Site to Site Transfers

As parent tags and their respective component tags move around the district, additional warning screens are displayed before completing the desired action.  

1. • If the transaction involves a parent, the screen displays the parent's respective list of component(s).  This screen also allows the removal of one or more components from the assigned parent.  
   • If the transaction involves a component, a warning screen displays the parent's information.  If the transaction is completed, the component tag will be unassigned from the parent tag. This changes the component's Asset Type to Standalone.

When a component is assigned to a parent, it automatically moves to the parent's current location.  This action is recorded in the tag's Status History.
