RFID is an optional paid add-on feature to TIPWeb-IT. For more information regarding purchasing the RFID add-on feature, contact our sales team at 800-749-5086.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a wireless non-contact use of radio-frequency electromagnetic fields to transfer data for the purpose of automatically identifying and tracking tags attached to objects. The tags contain electronically stored information. RFID tags contain at least two parts (sometimes not seen). One is an integrated circuit for storing and processing information, modulating and demodulating a radio-frequency (RF) signal, and collecting DC power from the incident reader signal. The other is an antenna for receiving and transmitting the signal.
The tag information is stored in a non-volatile memory. An RFID reader transmits an encoded radio signal to interrogate the tag. The RFID tag receives the message and then responds with its identification and other information. This is a unique Electronic Product Code (EPC). Example: Toll Road Vehicle Tags, Pet Identification Microchips (implanted), and Athletic Racing Chips
TIPWeb-RFID (the application installed on the RFID reader) will only locate associated RFID tags. The tag association process connects an EPC with a tag. The tag can currently exist in TIPWeb-IT or it may be a tag soon to be received into TIPWeb-IT. TIPWeb-IT creates tag associations by importing a spreadsheet (xls or xlsx file format) with two fields of data (EPC and Tag).
Current associations can be overwritten through this process if Overwrite Associations is selected.
Click on RFID Association, located on the Quick Links bar. The RFID Association Import Manager window opens.
Browse and select the desired file by clicking on Browse (located in the Upload File box).
If the desired file does not contain a header row, deselect My Table Has Headers by clicking on the box.
Click on Import. The window refreshes with the file’s data.
Select the active spreadsheet by using the Active Sheet drop down menu (located in the Actions box).
Assign each column’s data type to the respective required fields, using the drop down menus (in the blue header bar).
Click on Validate. This reviews the file for possible issues and reports those findings in the Validation box.
When the validation message displays “Validation Successful!”, click on Finish. The Confirm Import window appears.
Click OK.
The import brings in the tag and EPC associations and closes the RFID Association Import Manager window.
Within the Tag/Serial Search and various reports, the RFID field displays "Enabled" or "Not Found" for RFID customers to indicate the tags have been associated with an EPC. Associated tags can currently exist in TIPWeb-IT or they may be tags soon to be received into TIPWeb-IT.
For districts that do not have the RFID add-on, the RFID field displays "Not Enabled".
